Azerbaijan Visa for Indians: Validity, Stay and Travel Rules

Planning an Azerbaijan holiday from India? Understand e-visa eligibility, the difference between visa validity and permitted stay, passport requirements, processing options and registration for longer visits.

You are planning an Azerbaijan holiday, and the visa information mentions two different numbers: 90 days and 30 days. Does that mean you can spend three months exploring the country, or do you need to leave after one?

Here is the distinction: Indian passport holders are eligible to apply for an Azerbaijan e-visa, which is valid for 90 days but permits a stay of no more than 30 days within those validity dates. It is a single-entry visa—not permission to enter and leave repeatedly.

Understanding those conditions before finalising your itinerary can help you avoid planning a trip around the wrong dates.

This guide explains the Azerbaijan visa for Indians, including passport validity, standard and urgent processing, entry conditions and registration requirements for longer visits.

Do Indians need a visa for Azerbaijan?

For the tourist trip covered in this guide, Indian passport holders can apply for an electronic visa through Azerbaijan’s ASAN Visa system. India appears on the official list of countries eligible for the e-visa. Eligibility to apply does not guarantee approval or entry.

This guide focuses on the e-visa option. Do not assume that the same rules apply to a different visa category, a residence permit or any separate entry concession.

Azerbaijan visa for Indians: key facts

These conditions come from the official ASAN Visa portal and Azerbaijan’s State Migration Service. Always check the dates and details on your own issued visa.

Azerbaijan e-visa validity: 90 days does not mean a 90-day stay

The most important distinction is validity versus permitted stay.

The 90-day validity period is the window during which the e-visa can be used, subject to its conditions. The permitted stay is no more than 30 days, and that stay must remain within the visa’s validity dates.

This matters if you enter towards the end of the validity period. You do not automatically receive a fresh 30 days extending beyond the expiry date.

For example, if your e-visa expires shortly after your intended arrival, you should not assume that you can remain for another full month. Your departure must respect both the maximum stay and the visa’s expiry date.

Before confirming travel, check:

  1. The visa’s validity start date.
  2. Its expiry date.
  3. Your planned arrival.
  4. Your planned departure.

The dates should work together—not just appear valid individually.

Is the Azerbaijan e-visa single-entry or multiple-entry?

The Azerbaijan e-visa is single-entry. Once you leave the country, you cannot use that same visa for another entry, even if its validity dates have not ended.

This is relevant if you are planning a multi-country holiday.

An itinerary that enters Azerbaijan, visits another country and then returns to Azerbaijan requires separate consideration of the return-entry permission. Do not assume that an unexpired e-visa allows you back in.

The official conditions also state that applicants may apply for a new e-visa only after leaving Azerbaijan. If your itinerary includes re-entry, clarify the appropriate arrangements before committing to the route.

How much passport validity do Indian travellers need?

Your passport or travel document must remain valid for at least three months beyond the expiry date of the e-visa to be issued.

That is not the same as:

  1. Three months from your arrival.
  2. Three months from your departure.
  3. Three months from the application date.

Check the relationship between the proposed visa expiry date and the passport expiry date.

Also, travel with the same passport used for the e-visa application. The official conditions say the e-visa is invalid if the travel document used for the application differs from the one used for travel.

Azerbaijan visa processing time: standard versus urgent

ASAN Visa publishes two processing options:

The official conditions also distinguish the validity start dates. A standard e-visa starts on a date at least three working days after submission, while an urgent e-visa starts on its date of issue.

These are government processing provisions, not a promise of approval. An application can be refused, and a short processing option does not remove the need for accurate information and a readable passport copy.

As a planning precaution, avoid leaving your visa preparation until the final possible hour.

What application details need particular attention?

The official e-visa conditions make applicants responsible for the accuracy of their information and passport scan. False or incomplete information can prevent an application from being accepted, while an unreadable passport photo-page copy can lead to refusal.

Before submission, review:

  1. Your name and passport number.
  2. Nationality and travel-document details.
  3. The passport copy’s clarity.
  4. The email address used for notifications.
  5. Proposed dates against the visa conditions.

Use this as an accuracy check, not as a complete list of every field or document that may be requested.

Check the email address carefully

ASAN Visa sends application, payment and decision notifications to the email address provided. An incorrect address can therefore interfere with receiving important information.

Keep the relevant correspondence and issued visa accessible before travelling.

Do you need to print the Azerbaijan e-visa?

Yes. The official conditions say the e-visa should be printed and presented together with the travel document at an Azerbaijan border checkpoint. It is not attached to the passport as a sticker.

A digital backup is sensible, but it should not replace the printed copy required by the published instructions.

Before departure, compare the issued visa with your passport and check that the intended journey fits its dates.

Staying more than 15 days? Check registration requirements

A visa permitting a stay of up to 30 days does not remove Azerbaijan’s place-of-stay registration requirement.

For Indian travellers staying more than 15 days, registration must be completed within 15 days of arrival. Azerbaijan’s State Migration Service states that no state fee is charged for this registration.

ASAN Visa advises travellers to approach their hotel management, accommodation provider or property owner to arrange registration. Do not assume it has been completed simply because you have checked in.

What if you change accommodation?

The State Migration Service says that when a foreign visitor changes their place of stay, registration at the new address is required within five working days, subject to the stated exception for another property belonging to the same accommodation owner.

If your visit exceeds 15 days and involves several accommodation changes, clarify the registration arrangements with the relevant providers.

Registration is separate from permission to stay. It does not extend the visa or increase the permitted 30-day stay.

Does an approved e-visa guarantee entry?

No. Azerbaijan’s official conditions state that entry may still be prohibited in circumstances specified by its Migration Code. An e-visa should therefore not be described as guaranteed admission.

Travel with the correct passport and printed visa, and ensure your visit matches the permission issued.

The e-visa also does not authorise paid employment. A tourist trip should not be planned around an assumption that the visa permits work in Azerbaijan.

Common planning mistakes to avoid

Use these as a final review checklist:

  1. Treating 90-day validity as permission to stay for 90 days.
  2. Planning a departure after the visa’s expiry date.
  3. Assuming a single-entry visa allows a return visit.
  4. Checking passport validity only against the arrival date.
  5. Travelling on a different passport from the one used in the application.
  6. Relying only on a phone copy of the visa.
  7. Ignoring registration when the visit exceeds 15 days.
  8. Treating urgent processing as guaranteed approval.

Each of these checks relates to conditions published by ASAN Visa or the State Migration Service.

Frequently asked questions

Can Indian passport holders apply for an Azerbaijan e-visa?

Yes. India is included in the official ASAN Visa list of eligible countries. An application is still subject to assessment.

Can I stay in Azerbaijan for 90 days on the e-visa?

No. The e-visa is valid for 90 days but permits a stay of no more than 30 days within those validity dates.

Can I leave Azerbaijan and return using the same e-visa?

No. The e-visa is single-entry. Its remaining validity does not make it reusable after departure.

How long does an Azerbaijan e-visa take?

The published processing period is within three working days for a standard e-visa and within three hours for an urgent e-visa. Urgent processing applies regardless of holidays and non-working days. These periods do not guarantee approval.

Is three months of passport validity from arrival enough?

That is not the published test. The passport must remain valid for at least three months beyond the e-visa’s expiry date.

Do I need to register for a one-week holiday?

The place-of-stay registration requirement described here applies to Indian visitors staying more than 15 days. For a longer visit, registration must be completed within 15 days of arrival.

Can I obtain another e-visa while still in Azerbaijan?

The official conditions state that a new e-visa application may be made only after leaving Azerbaijan. Do not treat a new e-visa as an automatic way to extend a current visit.
